A potentially easier solution to cleaning crude oil from ocean waterscreated 5/10/2010 - 9:58 am, updated 5/10/2010 - 10:00 am by Chris |
I ran across this video today and, I have to say, it makes a lot of sense. How much money and effort is being pored into stopping and cleaning the BP oil spill in the Gulf? Every attempt has failed to this point. This demonstration shows how ordinary hay can be spread across the water and collected after it soaks up the oil. The company can pay farmers for the hay, let it do the job, then pay the out of work fishermen to use their boats to collect it afterward. It would not stop the leak but it would significantly clean the water. The oil company would probably pay a metric ton less for this, while farmers and fishermen would reap the benefit, especially when fishing is shut down due to oil.
