Jury rules against Boise couple in parental rights case

This ruling bothers me.  To be fair, I have only recently become aware of this case, but from what I have read, it seems boundaries were crossed by the city and hospital workers.

The Muellers had taken their 5 month old daughter to St. Lukes Hostpital to have her examined when she was running a fever.  The hospital wanted to do a lumbar puncture to check for spinal meningitis, a potentially life threatening condition.  However, the parents felt that their child's symptoms didn't justify the potentially risky procedure and declined to have it done.  The Boise Police then took possession of their daughter and returned her to the hospital to have the spinal tap done against the wishes of the parents.

Was it child endangerment?  Was it the right of the parents to decline an unneccessary procedure?  It certainly seems to set a precedent where agencies can step in and do what they decide is right regardless of what you decide is right.  Here is the video from KTVB:
