Idahoans for Liberty 2010 Candidate Endorsementscreated 11/2/2010 - 8:32 am, updated 11/2/2010 - 8:42 am by Chris Mangrum |
The big day is here. November 2, 2010. Time to vote 'em out!
If you are in Idaho and are unsure of which conservative candidate to choose, here is a list of endorsements from ID4L. I personally agree with the idea that some of the candidates running under the Independent or Constitution parties would, in some cases, be better choices, but they have little chance of winning. That, in turn, would take votes away from the Republican candidates. The better option is to change the Republican party from within.
IDAHOANS FOR LIBERTY ENDORSEMENTS
You may notice that not every office is listed. This might be because the candidate is unopposed, or because the two candidates are equally good, or equally bad. Making principled endorsements is not always easy, because you have to take the races as you find them. In many races, there is no true "pro-liberty" candidate, so a decision is made based on the ever classic "lesser-of-two-evils" method.
The Governor's race is troubling. Butch Otter was a former libertarian stalwart, but his time in office as Governor has seemed to transform him into an establishment hack. He has repeatedly voted against principles he once espoused. He has on many occassions insulted, slighted, and stood against the limited government, grassroots constituency in this state that once supported him. The third-party and independent candidates have zero chance of winning, obviously, but voting for them may help get the Democrat elected. And would that be so bad? ID4L will abstain from endorsing in this race. You will have to decide what voting strategy you think is the best for this race.
The highest recommendation of support goes to the candidate in the most exciting race: Raul Labrador. Raul has been an ally of ID4L and helped protect our newly formed group back in 2008 as we tried to change the Republican Party from within. Raul supports Ron Paul's "Audit the Fed" bill. What's more important is that there may well be a tidal wave of tea party / Ron Pauler Republicans getting elected around the country, and we need to add Raul's vote in Congress to theirs. So please make sure you get out there and vote for Raul!
