Everybody panic! Childhood obesity now a threat to national security!created 2/11/2010 - 8:54 am, updated 2/11/2010 - 10:14 am by Chris |
Judicial Watch just posted an article on the new "Just Move" campaign and the statement by the First Lady that childhood obesity is a threat to national security.
Really? National security?
The claim, paraphrased, was that not only is it $147 billion in annual health care cost, but all the overweight children grow up to be overweight adults who inevitably are disqualified for military service. Is this to justify the $400 million per year price tag? Hmm...
I was not a skinny kid but I don't think I qualified as obese either. That being said, I know exacly why I was the way I was. I ate too much and sat on my butt instead of going outside to get the exercise I needed. Shoot, I still need to do that. Being in front of a computer all day is not conducive to healthy living. Parents, do you wanna help fight childhood obesity? Interact with your kids, get them outside more, let them be kids.
Yes, I know there are exceptions. But come on, if you really take a look at the majority of video game playing, TV watching, sugar overloaded children, the reasons are pretty clear.
As a side note but related to health care, this was sent to me yesterday. Where is all this government intervention headed?
